Who are we?
We are community members that serve our children and community.
We have been in existence for almost 100 years in Richmond (Kiwanis International is now 107 years old).
We meet at the 19th Hole Restaurant, Shirkey Golf Club, Richmond, MO on TUESDAYS for lunch.
We have great conversations with our friends along with a worthwhile program.
We gather at 11:45 and ring the Bell at 12:10. Meetings end at 1 pm.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.
We sponsor the RMS Builders Club and the RHS Key Club.
We provide various service projects that impact the kids of our community.

Richmond Kiwanis Celebrates it's 100th YEAR on October 17th!!
Research shows that the Richmond Kiwanis Club was founded on October 26th and chartered on November 5th in 1923. We were founded by the Excelsior Springs Kiwanis Club (not existing today). We have had a rich history of providing service to the community. Our list of our honored Past-Presidents, Lt Governors, and Trustees is found on the History page. Our celebration event was held on October 17th, 2023 at the Farris Theatre's Friends Gallery. Many Kiwanians and Richmond community members came and helped us celebrate with a wine/cokes/ cheese and shrimp appetizers. A cupcake "100" also helped provide a festive display. Table decorations in the traditional blue and gold and white of Kiwanis, along with a Silent Auction and a 50/50 raffle (winners Bob and Teresa Haden donated it all back to the Centennial Project: Musical Playground Toys for the kids of Richmond at Hamann Park. Congratulations to all of the officers that were inducted and we thank all of the Missouri-Arkansas Kiwanis District dignitaries that made the effort to attend:

Officers of Richmond were Inducted by current Division Three Lt Governor and Region One Trustee, Jim Major of Gladstone and Liberty clubs. All officers will be continuing their positions for the next year.
Congratulations to Maxine Moore, President; David Miller, Vice-President; Sara Seidel, Secretary; and Bob Haden, Treasurer. Board of Trustees for Richmond were also inducted by Lt Governor Jim Major: Mac Proffitt, Troy Pyle, Barb Dooley, Earl Sheehy, Randy Schreurs and Bob Bond. Congratulations to all of the newly inducted officers and board members.
A "History of the Bell" was attempted by William Dooley, emcee for the evening's program only to be interrupted by Starla Janes of Smithville for a "special recognition". (The bell is believed to be the original bell when the charter was begun on Nov 5, 1923 and has the patina to go with being 100 years old. Nobody has disputed the claim - so it stands as 'original'.)
William Dooley, former Trustee for MOARK Region 1 (all of NW Misssouri) and former Lt Governor for Division Three, received the "George F. Hixson Fellowship" Award of Recognition. George Hixson was Kiwanis International's First President, with the Fellowship going to persons that have significantly contributed to the welfare of children and Kiwanis along with a donation of $1000 to the Kiwanis Children's Fund. The honors were presented from the six clubs in MOARK Division Three to William by Starla Janes, President of the Smithville Club. William's wife and fellow Richmond Kiwanian and Board Member, Barb Dooley, received a beautiful boquet of flowers for her support and contributions.
The celebrations included a 50/50 Raffle - which earned $115 - won by Bob and Teresa Haden. They donated the entire amount to the Centennial Playground Musical Instruments Project.
A Silent Auction was also held, with the following donations. Richmond Kiwanis appreciates all of these items and their donors. All proceeds from this auction are going to the Centennial Playground Musical Instruments Project.

We will be sending off for our next Dictionary Project books soon. Our third graders will enjoy the books and gazeteers with a grade-level assembly to introduce the books to them. We hope this happens in early November.

"Go for the Groceries" - Fundraiser for Richmond Kiwanis set for Nov 18th!
A 5 minute 'run' at Richmond Harp's Grocery Store, filling shopping carts...
Imagine yourself as the winner and getting to dash through the store for five minutes, pushing a cart and filling it with items from store shelves. You can, if you purchase a raffle ticket and are the final winner! There will be a drawing of all tickets on Nov 11 to determine the semi-finalists. You will then be notified (if you are one of the semi-finalists) to be present the following week (Nov 18th at 9am (Harps Grocery Store) to witness the final drawing for the Winner! Semi-finalists will receive special gift cards.... but the Winner will be given a shopping cart and at the end of the countdown, go madly around the store filling up as many carts as you can and be at the checkout stand just before the end of the 5 minutes. What fun! The proceeds of the raffle pay for the food to Harps. The remaining proceeds will go to the general budget of our Kiwanis Club, ensuring that our service to the community continues! So... go out and get those raffle tickets! See a Kiwanian, come to a meeting on Tuesday at Noon at the 19th Hole, or go to Harps and purchase the raffle tickets. ($10 / ticket or 6 tickets for $50).

Trick-or-Treat Hotdog Give-away at the Richmond FireStation
On Halloween, the club members will again be grilling hotdogs and stuffing them into buns, as fast as we can while giving the children in the cars going through the Fire Station each a hotdog and chips and a bottle of water. What fun to see all of the costumes and how proud the little ones will be to receive their own hotdog! Thanks to all members in making this event a success! See you at the Fire Station!

MOARK 71st District Convention 2023 - Report
Bill Dooley attended the MOARK District Convention as a delegate on August 4-6, 2022 in Bentonville, AR. This convention had delegates from each Kiwanis Club in the MOARK District and other attendees enjoy sharing Kiwanis ideas, club leadership training, and voting on resolutions / ByLaws and officers for the MOARK District. Governor Roy Ockert of Jonesboro, AR will finish his term on September 30th. Governor-designate Paul Sherman from South Springfield, MO will become our next Governor on October 1st and has great plans for the district. Jim Fritz was elected as our next Governor-elect to follow as Governor after Paul Sherman. Each local club was invited to be present and have voting delegates. Fun events included a trip to Crystal Bridges, the art museum in Bentonville, and a comedy improvisation troupe for evening entertainment. The main service project was the collection of books for the Children's Hospital of Little Rock and other locations. The silent auction found the Earl Collins Foundation earning over $3000 for scholarships and grants.

The Richmond Kiwanis Club will be providing a free movie for kids at the Farris Theatre on March 18th in the evening. 7pm will be the show start time. The movie provided for our community children and parents as one of our service projects to the community. We had about 65 in attendance and everyone had a great time!

The club supported the Mushroom Festival by having a booth in the block just east of the Farris Theater along Main Street. We had Sports Memorabilia available in a Silent Auction as a fundraiser to help our efforts with scholarships and the Dictionary Project.

Dictionary Project 2022-23 School Year - (Service Project):
Richmond Kiwanis again purchased and stickered about 150 brand new dictionaries and then delivered them to the third graders at Sunrise Elementary and at the Hardin-Central Elementary Schools this school year. We delivered the books and handed them out with a short program on usage of the dictionaries. Bill Dooley, Barb Dooley, Bob Haden, John Hartman, and Randy Schreurs facilitated at Sunrise while Sara Seidel facilitated the Hardin-Central dictionary deliveries and presentations.
